Nadira returns to the orchard (original short story)
The following text is from an original short story written for this practice set. Nadira has returned to the village where she grew up after twelve years in the city.
The orchard was smaller than she remembered, and the wall she had once climbed like a mountain now reached only to her shoulder. Yet the apricot trees seemed to ______ her, their branches bending low over the path as if they had been waiting all this time to see whether she would come back.
