Notice: public open evenings at the Brenmoor University Observatory

Brenmoor University Observatory: Public Open Evenings

From October to March, the observatory opens its doors to the public on the first Friday of every month. Each evening begins at 7.30 p.m. with a twenty-minute illustrated talk by a member of the physics department, after which visitors are invited to look through the main telescope and a set of smaller instruments set up on the roof terrace.

Entry is free, but places are limited to forty people per evening and must be reserved online at least two days in advance. Children under twelve are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Please note that the roof terrace can only be reached by a narrow staircase; visitors who are unable to use the stairs can watch a live image from the main telescope on a large screen in the ground-floor lecture room.

Viewing depends on the weather. If the sky is cloudy, the talk will still go ahead, and staff will offer a tour of the observatory's collection of historical instruments instead of telescope viewing. We do not cancel open evenings because of cloud, so there is no need to contact us to check.

Warm clothing is strongly recommended, as the roof terrace is not heated.
