Television programme notes: getting more out of a trip abroad
Your class has watched a television travel programme in which experienced travellers discussed how people can get more out of a holiday abroad. You have made the notes below.
Ways to get more out of a trip abroad: • learning some of the local language • planning the trip in detail beforehand • staying with local people rather than in hotels
Some opinions expressed in the programme: “Even ten words of the language change the way people treat you.” “If you plan every hour, you leave no room for the unexpected.” “You only really see a country when you see how people live at home.”
Write an essay discussing TWO of the ways in your notes. You should explain which way is more effective in helping people get more out of a trip abroad, giving reasons in support of your answer.
You may, if you wish, make use of the opinions expressed in the programme, but you should use your own words as far as possible.
