Man: Have you had a chance to look at the figures from the early-pay trial? Woman: I have. About a third of the staff at the three trial centres drew some of their wages before payday at least once, and most of those did it more than once. Man: That's what worries me. I know the app doesn't charge them anything, but if people need their money early month after month, aren't we just helping them dig themselves into a deeper hole? Woman: I had exactly the same fear. But look at who's using it. Almost all of it is people in their first two months with us. Man: Ah. Because their first full payslip doesn't arrive until they've been here nearly six weeks. Woman: Right. It isn't people who can't manage their money. It's people who've gone over a month with nothing coming in. Man: So you'd offer it everywhere? Woman: Not yet. I'd rather deal with the cause. Payroll say they could pay new starters every fortnight for their first two months. And the app company wants a fee for every member of staff if we extend it. Man: Then let's put the payroll idea to the board, and keep the app at the three trial centres for now. Woman: Agreed.
