The island that lives by the ferry timetable (multiple-choice cloze text)

The island that lives by the ferry timetable

Life on Skerrin, a small island off the west coast, is organised around the ferry. The boat crosses from the mainland harbour at Portcallan four times a day, and passengers who [1] ______ the harbour after the last departure at 6.15 p.m. have no choice but to find a bed for the night in the town. For the island's two hundred residents, this can be frustrating. [2] ______ they complain about the timetable, few of them would welcome the bridge that has been suggested several times over the years. 'The ferry is slow,' says Moira Buchanan, who runs the island shop, 'but it's the reason Skerrin still feels like Skerrin.'
