What's for breakfast? (word formation text)
What's for breakfast? A report for the Brookvale School student newspaper
Last month the Year 10 students at Brookvale School asked 240 of their schoolmates a simple question: what did you eat before school this morning? The results surprised even the teachers. Although the [1] ______ (MAJOR) of students said they had eaten something, almost a third had arrived at school with nothing in their stomachs at all. The reason most of them gave was not that there was no food at home, but that there was no time to eat it. Many admitted that they stay in bed as long as possible and then rush out of the house. Others said they simply do not feel hungry so early in the day. Several students who regularly skip breakfast also told us that they find it hard to concentrate in their first two lessons, and that by eleven o'clock they are often buying crisps or chocolate from the machine in the corridor. The student council is now planning to ask whether the canteen could sell toast and fruit before registration.
